Mount Meru Trekking for 5 Days
Mount Meru is 50 miles west of Mt. Kilimanjaro and located in the heart of Arusha National Park. At 14,980 feet, Mt. Meru is a huge spring of flowing lava (4,565 meters). Because of its height acclimatization and climbing lengths, this excursion is a perfect warm-up for Mt. Kilimanjaro. This tour is also designed for climbers who choose a less strenuous and more demanding ascent.

Even just hiking and camping on the slopes or visiting the ash cone in the much lower crater are walking safaris that I can warmly recommend. You will be amazed by the amount of wildlife you can find on this mountain, the vegetation is stunning all the way, and Meru simply isn’t as overrun as Kilimanjaro is.
(For people who are doing walking safaris on the lower slopes or in other areas of Arusha National Park there are several campgrounds. And for those wanting to do a safari in style there are a couple of very comfortable lodges just outside Arusha National Park.)
Our Guide will pick you from the Airport then give you Briefing about Your Tanzania Safari then drive you to your Hotel for overnight.
Day 2 :Momella Gate (1500m) – Miriakamba Hut (2500m)
You will be picked up from your accommodation in the morning and transported to the Arusha National Park Gate for admission requirements after a 45-minute journey. We next travel a little further to Momella Gate, where we will begin our climb. You’ll arrive at Maio Falls and some gorgeous meadows after a steady 2-hour trek. We’ll stop for a rest before heading to the well-known ‘Arched Fig Tree,’ whose shape forms an arch over the route. You’ll arrive at the Miriakamba Hut after another 112 to 2 hours.
Meals: Dinner; Miriakamba Hut;
In the morning, we follow a steep track with wooden steps upwards. Due to the increase in altitude, it will be noticeably cooler than the previous day making the hike easier. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach the vantage point ‘Mgongo wa Tembo’ (Elephant back) at an elevation of 3200m, where you will enjoy a well-earned break. After another hike in which the vegetation changes from rainforest into an airy bush land, you will reach Saddle Hut (3550m) at midday for a relaxing lunch break. In the afternoon, you have the option to do a side trip to Little Meru (3820m), which takes approx. 1 – 1 ½ hours where you can have wonderful views of Arusha National Park and Kilimanjaro (approx. 80 km away).
Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: Miriakamba Hut
Hiking time: 10 to 12 hours
At 00:30, your guide will wake you up for tea and biscuits. At 1:30 a.m., you’ll begin your summit attempt. From Rhino Point (3800m) to Cobra Point, the trail begins on a hard incline (4350m). You’ll scramble up a rocky ridge between Meru’s crater and inner cliffs for the last hour of the climb. At sunrise, you’ll reach Meru’s peak (4565m), with breathtaking views of Mt. Meru Ash Tray and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Take in the scenery before descending to Saddle Hut for a rest. The descent to Miriakamba Hut will then continue (2500m).
Meals: Dinner; Miriakamba Hut;
Hiking time: 2 to 3 hours
We’ll start our final descent to Momella gate after a long rest and breakfast. We’ll go on a hike through the woods and meadows, where there’s a good chance we’ll see some wildlife. Our driver will meet you at the base of Mt. Meru and transport you back to Arusha.
