Mt. Meru ensures to be an exceptional experience, bringing you very close to superb untamed life and giving perspectives both of this one-of-a-kind hole mountain and of Kilimanjaro somewhere far away. It can be used as an incredible acclimatization journey prior to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or as an independent experience. A three-day adventure gets you to the highest point in two days, with the third day arriving at the crack of dawn. After that, on the last day, you will dive completely.

Even just hiking and camping on the slopes or visiting the ash cone in the much lower crater are walking safaris that I can warmly recommend. You will be amazed by the amount of wildlife you can find on this mountain, the vegetation is stunning all the way, and Meru simply isn’t as overrun as Kilimanjaro is.
(For people who are doing walking safaris on the lower slopes or in other areas of Arusha National Park there are several campgrounds. And for those wanting to do a safari in style there are a couple of very comfortable lodges just outside Arusha National Park.)
Tanzania welcomes you! Tanzania welcomes you! When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by a Pristine Trails representative and transferred to your Arusha inn. You will have a pre-journey preparation with your mountain guide either this evening/evening or the next morning, depending on your arrival time.
Withdraw from Arusha in the start of the day for the drive to Arusha National Park’s Momella Gate. You will begin your journey after completing park enrollment and pressing your belongings. As you begin your rise, you’ll have the sense of being on a mobile safari, passing by zebra, giraffe, impala, and other animals. As you continue rising, you’ll come across a beautiful cascade and the Ngarenanyuki River before arriving at camp for supper and the night.
As the trek becomes more rigorous, the day begins with a climb up a long number of steps. You’ll arrive at Saddle Hut and enter the elevated desert zone after only a few hours. You’ll take a short trek to the peak of Little Meru (3820 m/12,533 ft) for acclimatization and beautiful views of Mt. Meru Crater and the Ash Tray after a rest and lunch. Return to the camping location for an early supper and a good night’s sleep so that you can wake up rested for your highest point climb.
You’ll get up around 12:30 a.m. for a quick snack and to make plans for the summit ascent. The road becomes steeper as you pass Rhino Point, traverse a rocky divider, climb through Cobra Point, and finally navigate a rough edge between the hole and the mountain’s inside precipices. You’ll get some great views of the Ash Tray before reaching the summit, Socialist Peak, where you may admire views of Mt. Kilimanjaro someplace out there and celebrate your accomplishment.
