What to Expect

Tanzania  is the untamed half of east Africa, the raw safari experience that first drew explorers from around the world, home to endless savannah, volcanic mountains, the Great Migration and the towering walls of the Ngorongoro Crater.

A few hours away is mighty Mount Kilimanjaro itself, where adventure seekers can hike through a series of wildly different landscapes in a bid to reach the pinnacle of Africa, accompanied by a full complement of hardy porters and experienced guides. Although the mountain can be summited without having to do any serious climbing, it is still to be respected. Though the summit of Kilimanjaro lies among the clouds, those wanting to stand upon the mountain need not climb to the very top, as special excursions cater for short hikes and picnic lunches on its slopes.

Creating yet another rugged and scenic landscape nearby, the Rift Valley plunges down to the shores of tranquil Lake Manyara in a series of steep cliffs. Shallow and fed by the runoff from the high escarpment along its side, Manyara is home to great multitudes of pink-feathered flamingo throughout the year. The verdant national park that lies along its shores is famed for high concentrations of wildlife, including its unusual tree-climbing lion.

Itinerary

Day 0 Arrival

When you arrive at Kilimanjaro’s global air terminal, meet our agent and make your way to your lodge in Arusha. Our safari supervisor will arrive later for detailed safari planning, leaving you to relax and enjoy the rest of the day at the cabin.

Day 1 Arusha – Tarangire National park

After breakfast at your hotel, depart for Tarangire National Park via Arusha for any last-minute purchases. This park is located along the Great Northern Parkway which passes along Tarangire waterway credits, and it is made up of small hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its primary vegetation consists of massive African Baobab trees scattered throughout the country, as well as acacia forest and bog regions in the south.

During the dry season, the Tarangire River and the wetlands provide a major source of water in the leisure area, as well as exile territory for a larger number of creature species. The recreation center is home to one of Africa’s largest elephant populations. There are also several unusual animal species in this park, such as Great Kudu, Fringed-eared Oryx, and Ash Starlings.

The late-evening drive to Marera Valley is delayed by a stop at the Great East African Rift Valley’s slope for nightfall and beautiful views of Lake Manyara and its forests.

Day 2 Tarangire – Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti

“The Family safari in Tanzania takes you to Ngorongoro Crater through the high lying farmlands of Karatu and various towns up to Ngorongoro entryway, after park conventions drive up to Crater see point 2,300 meters for some good images of the cavity floor from the edge,” says the guide after an early breakfast. Then descend 600 meters into the Crater’s floor for a relaxing game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a stunning untamed life refuge and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has been referred to as the “eighth wonder of the world” by various people. You can expect to see tigers, panthers, hyenas, jackals, elephants, zebras, hippos, and the rare dark rhino because few animals pass into the hole with its 600 meter high dividers. Flamingos, ibises, geese, ostriches, and other bird species can all be found in the hole. After lunch, depart for Serengeti National Park (optional), stopping in one of the Masai towns along the way to meet some Masai champions who will welcome you and show you around their homes for a glimpse into their migrant life in this area.

You will meet children and other friends, and you will be able to ask them questions and take photographs of them. Later, they’ll sing a farewell song that involves high hopping and running. After some park conventions, continue driving to Naabi door in the late evening to begin nightfall game drives in the Serengeti in search of the Wildebeest Migration. Arrive at the Serengeti’s focal point at dusk.

Day 3 Full Day Game Drives in Serengeti

On this day, we take you on an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, which starts at 6:30 a.m. (leave with breakfast and lunch boxes). An early morning game drive allows you to watch the sunrise in the Serengeti fields and game, with the rest of the cut family out and about while they avoid the morning fog.

You could even see several other hunters returning from an exhausting evening of chasing and eating or playing in the lane. You should expect to see a lot of monster activity, such as fighting and, eventually, murdering. On the off chance that the Wildebeest Migration will be in Serengeti you will spend a lot of your game drive following their development. Late evening time during or before the dusk drive back to the cabin for supper and overnight.

Day 4 Serengeti – Zanzibar Islands

After breakfast, drive to Seronera airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar, keeping in mind the game drive along the way. Arrive at the airstrip 30 minutes prior to the flight. Arrive in Zanzibar, visit our agent, and travel to Ocean Jambiani Beach Resort in the island’s north-east corner. Breakfast and dinner are included.

Overnight at Ocean Jambiani Beach Resort in the island’s north-east corner.

Breakfast and dinner are included.

Day 5 and 6 Zanzibar Beach Holidays

Relax and enjoy the white sand beaches of Zanzibar; various water games can be organized at your retreat; instead, you can visit Stone Town and embark on a journey (see Zanzibar Islands Visits page). Breakfast and supper are included in the price.

Day 7 Departure Transfer

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Zanzibar air terminal to board your flight back home (depending on your flight time, you can opt to do our acclaimed stone town tour or the Spice tour prior to arriving at the air terminal; please see our Zanzibar visit page for more information).
