The “Whiskey Route” on Mount Kilimanjaro is known as the Machame variant, which is an eight-day, seven-night trek. The trip from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp is split into two days on the Machame Route, allowing for a shorter day shortly before the Uhuru Peak attempt. This is critical for climbers because the summit day begins late, around midnight, and climbers are sleep deprived going into the mountain’s most difficult day. Trekkers will be better rested if they have a short day beforehand.
On the Machame Route, you’ll spend 7 nights and 8 days climbing the peak.
